 Foam Polystyrene
Foam Polystyrene(foam plastic) is ecologically clean, nontoxic, sound-insulted and sound proof material, used in building during 40 years and made a good showing as the most economic, convenient in use, with the low degree of heat conduction and vapour permeability. Now in Europe more than 60% all produced foam polystyrene used for heat insulation. Foam polystyrene, thanks to it properties, supplies the necessary heat insulation of the buildings.

The material consists of 98% air - the best natural heat insulator.
The building works keenly require in foam polystyrene today, which are situated in different climato-geographical zones. It is known, that total heat losses through the walls, coverings and windows is 70% from all heat losses through the protecting constructions. That’s why Building Ministry essentially elevated the required level of temperature lag (heat transmission strength) of protecting constructions by the Decree from 11.08.1995 ¹ 18-81. For all that the necessary temperature lag is fixed independently from used materials and constructive solutions of protecting (Building heat technique). So, the question is appeared to pass to more effective protecting constructions. One of the most perspective tendencies of prevention heat losses is to use foam polystyrene. According to the provided norms to building heat insulation the wall from foam polystyrene with the thickness 12 cm with its heat preservation properties is equal:

- Timber wall of 0, 5 m;

- Brick wall of 2 m;

- Concrete wall of 4 m.

The supporting of comfort conditions by the building exploitation, built from traditional building materials, requires higher fuel consumptions, what finally doesn’t give favorable effect on unsatisfying ecological environment in regions and big cities.

Foam Polystyrene is used:

In roof’s and wall’s constructions

Platform or inclined roof, wall or the floor of dwelling house or office, the heat and cold, the dryness and moisture, snow load and wind outside, air moisture in rooms affect them constantly and equally. By roof’s isolation the foam plastic is placed depending on roof’s construction loosely or between the frames, it is glued or mechanically fixed to the foundation. In the walls on the surface of bearing brickwork the lay of foam plastic is applied, and on the top - special plaster, or ventilated facing casing for protecting from environment. Also the foam plastic is placed inside the hollow brick laying on the special pins. Other system of thermal protection is the using of shaped details from foam plastic for exterior walls. Fashioned blocks better stiffly place, make metal armature and then fill up with the concrete. Last time the most popular is thermal protection and noise insulation of roofs, walls and floors in the rooms, using concrete polystyrene (the mixture of foam plastic balls with liquid concrete). The penetration of rain and melted water inside the facing doesn’t influence on foam plastic functions. The system of outside warming and fa
çade’s decoration of cellular polystyrene plates keeps the heat and retains the wall’s surface in primeval form during some years.

For floor isolation
As a heat isolation material cellular polystyrene is placed between the ledgers. To reach the effective isolation from percussive noise the rooms are faced with cellular polystyrene plates and covered with sutureless (for example cement) or dry floor, which its underlayer functions as spring system, the mass can easily vibrate, preventing sound penetration in the floor-ceiling’s construction. Concrete foam polystyrene is used more often now.

LLC”Vyatkastroydetal” organized the producing of building half-building products on the polystyrene base:

Plate foam polystyrene elements of different thickness linear dimension 2,0õ1,0 m. Solidity of plate elements may vary from 10 till 50 kg/m3.

The use of elements from foam polystyrene opens the range of architecture creation, the plastic of constructions is boundless.
